How to block your name and number from being sent

BellSouth (and other telco) customers can block their names and telephone numbers from being sent to Caller ID customers, so some calling information may not be delivered. If you choose not to have your number sent to someone with Caller ID services, you can activate free per-call blocking by

pressing *67 from your touch-tone phone,

BEFORE you dial the number you are calling!

Detailed Information

What Blocking Options Do I Have?

There are two free options available that enable you to prevent your name and number from being displayed when you make a call.

The choice is yours.

Here's how each blocking option works:

Complete Blocking - set up with your phone company

(Maximum Privacy Protection)

With Complete Blocking, Astound will automatically block your name and phone number from being transmitted on all of your calls. However, you can choose to override Complete Blocking and transmit your number on selected calls by pressing *82 (1182 on rotary phones) before you dial your number. Blocking does not work when calling 800/888 & 900 services and 9-1-1.

Selective Blocking (initiated before each call, *67)

(Minimum Privacy Protection)

With Selective Blocking, your name and phone number are always transmitted unless you choose to block it. To block your number on selected calls with selective blocking, you must press *67 (1167 on rotary phones) before you dial your number. Blocking does not work when calling 800/888 & 900 services and 9-1-1.

*Selective Blocking will automatically be assigned to your phone unless you choose Complete Blocking (described above).

There is no monthly charge for either blocking option and there is no initial setup charge. Once your blocking option is established, you may change your blocking option one time free of charge. After that, a service order charge will apply to blocking changes.

Key Points To Remember About Caller ID Blocking

• All phone numbers, including unlisted and non-published numbers, are transmitted unless you choose to block them.

• The party you are calling must have Caller ID service and a display unit to see your number.

• Both Selective Blocking and Complete Blocking are FREE. However, after one free change, a service order charge will apply to change your blocking option.

• If you choose Selective Blocking, anyone who uses your phone should know how to use *67 (1167) to block transmission of your phone number.

• When you block your name and number from being displayed, the party you are calling will see a message such as "Private" on his or her Caller ID telephone equipment.

• Blocking does NOT work when calling 9-1-1.

• Blocking does NOT work when calling 800, 888 and 900 services.

• If you have a cellular phone, check with your cellular provider to find out what your blocking options are.
